Seriously, what’s the point of winter? Everything dies, freezing winds attack you from all sides and you constantly live in fear of icy falls. When winter first begins, I try to be positive and appreciate the wonders, but after about a month, when it just keeps getting colder and snow keeps falling, it starts to eat away at my patience. There’s only so much a girl can take, my poor eyes can’t handle the blinding reflection of the snow anymore, I reached the limit a long time ago. And I know I'm not the only one that struggles with an intense hatred for winter. You know weather often affects people’s moods. While noticeable, these shifts in mood generally don’t affect the ability to cope with daily life. However, Mayo Clinic and the Canadian Mental Health Association have found that some people are victims to a type of depression that follows a seasonal pattern known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). If you are like most people with SAD, you often experiences the symptoms from the start of fall and into the winter months, as it gets colder and darker. It drains your energy and makes you moody, SAD is much less often seen in spring and summer.. so obviously I blame the harshness of winter.
As much as I really dislike winter though, there are a few things that aren’t terrible about it.. like the sparklingly snow, its beautiful and brings opportunities of exciting snowball fights, snow days and more. It also means winter sports like skiing, and hockey, honestly though I’ve never really liked winter sports.. and for quite a few people I know, winter means the arrival of Christmas and all the loveliness that comes with it. For some it also signifies the arrival of a new year that can provide new opportunities and experiences, winter could be seen as the deliverer of a fresh start. But really, when this happy hullabaloo is all over, what's left of winter? Nothing but the freezing temperatures, whipping winds and dark days that remind you of the truth… winter is not a good season. After it drags on for months, with what seems like an endless amount of snow falling, there’s no denying we all just wish it would be over and that spring would come to be our savior from the cruel white wonderland. I’ve definitely had enough, what about you?
